Short answer

The Philippine IT-BPM industry reported US$40.3 billion in 2025 revenue and 1.89 million full-time staff. Its association, IBPAP, projects US$43.3 billion to US$50.5 billion in revenue by 2028 and describes an “AI-Enabled Digital Filipino Worker” as the center of its plan. The latest firm-level survey found BPO AI adoption at 7.19 percent in 2021, the highest of the sectors reported. This page collects dated, sourced figures and published moves, and does not advise individuals on employment decisions.

This page collects published figures about AI in the Philippine BPO sector, shows where sources differ, and lists company and industry moves that were read at their own pages. It frames what the sources say about opportunities for operators. It does not advise individuals on employment decisions, and it is not a forecast. The tables are compiled by the desk from the cited sources. The page has not been hands-on tested, and no review by a qualified specialist has taken place.

Adoption context

Sector size

The IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) publishes the industry’s headline numbers. Different IBPAP documents give slightly different figures for the same year, so both are shown.

The Industry Overview and the releases use different dates and rounding. Neither document explains the difference in the 2026 staff forecast, so this page does not choose between them.

IBPAP then issued a 2028 outlook. Its release of 14 July 2026 projects revenue between US$43.3 billion and US$50.5 billion and between 1.85 million and 2.14 million full-time employees by 2028. It says reaching the upper end needs action on talent, higher-value segments and collaboration. News coverage compares this with an earlier 2028 target, but the earlier target was not read at an IBPAP page, so it is not stated here.

AI adoption figures

The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) Discussion Paper 2024-35 (December 2024) analyses the 2021 Survey of Innovation Activities of Establishments. It reports an AI adoption rate of 7.19 percent for BPO, 5.94 percent for ICT and 3.02 percent for all establishments (PIDS). The same paper also states that 14.9 percent of firms use AI and machine learning, and it does not reconcile the two figures. The paper is a preliminary discussion paper. These are 2021 figures. A current official rate for BPO after 2021 was not found.

Exposure studies

Two international institutions measured how many Philippine jobs involve tasks that AI could affect. Exposure measures task overlap. It is different from a forecast of jobs lost.

IMF Working Paper, Cucio and HennigAround one third of workers highly exposed; around sixty percent of those also rated highly complementary to AI; business process outsourcing has the highest proportion of jobs at risk of displacement21 February 2025

Where AI is applied

The five groupings below are the desk’s way of organizing the topic. Each says what the task is and what, if anything, was read at a primary page.

  • Agent assist. Software that listens to or reads a conversation and suggests answers or notes to the agent. Amdocs describes Store Genie as serving over 750 frontline agents at Smart and PLDT Home (Amdocs, 23 June 2026). That is a telecom’s own retail staff, not a BPO. No BPO release on agent assist was read.
  • Quality monitoring. Software that scores calls or chats for compliance and tone. No primary page was read.
  • Knowledge search. Software that answers a question from approved company documents. PLDT reports an internal tool, KAI, that retrieves information in one to three seconds, in a UiPath release of 5 October 2026 (UiPath via Business Wire). Again, an operator’s own use.
  • Back-office processing. Software that reads documents and updates records. The same release describes ERICA, an agent that scores risk statements against compliance standards.
  • Chat and voice self-service. Bots that resolve routine requests without an agent. TP’s Philippines release of 22 October 2025 describes agentic AI capabilities for multi-step processes, with human oversight kept for emotionally nuanced interactions (TP).

For the definition of the newer, goal-driven kind of tool, see agentic AI in the Philippines.

IBPAP’s release of 28 January 2026 says Gen AI-assisted customer experience and AI Operations are increasingly integrated into the workflows and business operations the industry delivers. The release of 30 December 2025 says AI is accelerating productivity and service quality across the sector. Neither publishes a measure of how much AI is used inside member companies.

Company newsrooms for Concentrix, TaskUs and Accenture were searched. Their pages could not be opened or had no Philippines-specific AI release on 12 Oct 2026, so they are not listed.

Opportunity list

These points restate what the IBPAP releases above describe as areas of growth or focus. They are not predictions.

  • Higher-value services. IBPAP names global capability centers, healthcare, banking and financial services as expected drivers through 2028, and lists analytics, engineering, finance and healthcare information management among higher-value work won.
  • Smaller operators. SOLAIA 2026 keeps an SME Company of the Year category. IBPAP gives no AI-specific figure for smaller firms.
  • Provincial sites. IBPAP reports growth beyond Metro Manila in Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Clark. Its Can You HackIT challenge is described as showing that higher-value tech work can be delivered beyond major urban centers.
  • New service lines. IBPAP names Gen AI-assisted customer experience and AI Operations.

What changes for roles and tasks

No source read for this page gives task counts by BPO job title. What is published is general. IBPAP says expectations for digital fluency, problem-solving and higher-order skills are rising, and that revenue per worker is becoming a measure of competitiveness. TP says people remain on emotionally nuanced interactions.

  • Agents, team leads, QA and workforce management. No role-level figures were found at primary pages.
  • Roles that are growing. IBPAP’s 30 December 2025 release notes Filipino professionals increasingly taking roles in business intelligence, project and program management, transformation, strategy support and analytics.

Skills in demand

IBPAP’s 14 July 2026 release describes the AI-Enabled Digital Filipino Worker as combining AI fluency, deep domain expertise, judgement, critical thinking, empathy and leadership. It names programs offered at no cost to employees with government and industry partners: Project UNLAD with TESDA and DICT (described as a program of PHP 740 million in the 28 January 2026 release), the AI Tech Academy in Cebu with PEZA, and Byte The Gap with DepEd.

Policy and industry roadmaps

  • IBPAP stated on 18 September 2026 that no Philippine law regulating AI currently exists, and published its framework as a voluntary reference.
  • The Data Privacy Act (RA 10173) applies where personal data is processed. NPC Advisory No. 2024-04 (19 December 2024) covers AI systems that process personal data (NPC).
  • The National AI Strategy Roadmap 2.0 of the Department of Trade and Industry is summarized by OECD.AI.

What is not published

  • A current official rate of AI use inside BPO firms after the 2021 survey.
  • Task or job counts by BPO role.
  • BSP services export data: the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas pages were not read at the source, so no BSP figure is given.
  • DOLE data on AI and BPO employment: not fetched.
  • The full IBPAP roadmap document. The 14 July 2026 release was read, not a separate roadmap file.
  • Reasons for differences between IBPAP forecasts.

This page does not advise individuals on employment decisions, and it does not advise companies on workforce decisions.
