Two kinds of tool

The vendors’ pages describe two jobs, and a business may need both.

  • Tax filing. Taxumo and JuanTax prepare and file BIR forms online. Taxumo lists forms such as 1701Q, 2550Q and 2551Q by plan. JuanTax describes itself as the “First BIR-Accredited Tax Platform”.
  • Bookkeeping. Zoho Books, Xero and QuickBooks record invoices, bills and bank transactions and produce financial reports.

None of the three bookkeeping pages read for this guide mentions BIR forms. That does not mean they lack the feature. It means the page does not say so, so ask each vendor and your accountant.

The tools one by one

Taxumo

Taxumo’s pricing page shows each paid plan’s price per quarter at three billing lengths. Longer commitments cost less: the 8% Plan is PHP 2,699 a quarter on quarterly billing and PHP 1,374 on 2-year billing. The plans are matched to taxpayer type:

  • 8% Plan: non-VAT individuals on the 8% income tax rate who file income tax only.
  • Micro Plan: non-VAT individuals under graduated rates who withhold tax for suppliers or employees.
  • SMB Plan: VAT individuals, and non-VAT or VAT partnerships and corporations.

The page lists the forms in each plan, digital books of accounts, and delegation of up to two extra accounts, for example to an accountant. It also lists a Timeout plan at PHP 2,699 a year, which files zero forms for a dormant business, and a retainer service at PHP 3,000 a month plus a subscription.

JuanTax

JuanTax’s homepage lists three products: Juan Accounting Software for CPA practitioners and bookkeepers, Fast File for individuals and SMEs to file, amend and pay BIR dues, and Plus. It also states a guaranteed five-year backup of tax returns, attachments and confirmation receipts. JuanTax’s pricing page could not be loaded, and search results showed two JuanTax pages with different figures, so no price is quoted. Read the live page.

Zoho Books

Zoho’s pricing page lists a free plan for one user plus one accountant, with up to 1,000 invoices a year, free while annual revenue is at or below US$50,000. Paid plans add bank feeds, multi-currency, inventory and more. Zoho says prices exclude local taxes. The page did not state which region its prices were for, so confirm the Philippine price on your own screen.

Xero

Xero lists four plans in dollars, with invoice and bill limits on Lite and Starter. It says it connects to 1,000+ apps. The Philippines page does not mention peso pricing, BIR or Philippine bank feeds.

QuickBooks

QuickBooks’ Philippines page lists four plans by user count, from 1 user (Simple Start) to 25 (Advanced), a 30-day free trial and monthly billing. Its prices showed as “Loading live prices”, so none is quoted. The feature lists do not mention BIR or VAT features.

Records, tax and data

A Philippine business remains responsible for its books and filings whichever tool it uses. This site does not give tax advice, so confirm requirements for books of accounts, invoicing and filing with a licensed accountant or the BIR. Accounting data includes customer and supplier details, so the Data Privacy Act (Republic Act No. 10173) applies. It asks for reasonable security measures (Section 20) and accountability for data a vendor processes for you (Section 21).

Accounting and automation

Repeated accounting tasks include creating invoices from won deals, matching payments, and collecting receipts. A workflow tool such as n8n or Zapier can connect a bookkeeping tool to a CRM or a form. Check each product’s app list for the connection and actions you need. The workflow automation guide helps choose a first process.
