What a ticketing system does

A ticketing system, also called a helpdesk, gives every customer request a record. The common parts are a shared inbox, assignment rules, status and priority fields, response templates, reports and often a help center of articles that customers can search before they write in. Some products add live chat and an AI agent in front of the queue.

For a Philippine business the usual trigger is volume. When requests arrive by email, Messenger, a website chat and a phone number, a shared spreadsheet stops being enough. Which channels each product covers matters more than the feature count, so read the channel list before the price.

How the five were chosen

These five are widely searched helpdesk and live chat products, and each publishes a pricing page or developer documentation. This is a selection list, not a market survey, and many other products exist. Criteria used:

  • Price model. Per agent or per seat, billing basis, and the currency shown.
  • Channels. Email, chat and messaging channels the vendor lists.
  • Automation hooks. Documented webhooks and APIs that a workflow tool can use.
  • AI features. What the vendor lists, with how it is priced.
  • Availability in the Philippines. No vendor page read for this page names the Philippines, so none is claimed. Check with the vendor.

The products one by one

Zendesk

Zendesk separates Support plans from Suite plans in the 2023 article: Support Team $19 annual and $25 monthly, Suite Team $55 annual and $69 monthly, with higher tiers up to Suite Enterprise Plus at $249 annual. Its developer documentation describes the Support API as covering tickets, users, organizations and custom objects, and the API reference also lists triggers, macros, automations and SLA policies as resources. Webhooks let Zendesk send an HTTP request to a URL you set when activity occurs, with a new ticket as one example.

Freshdesk

Freshdesk’s page lists Growth, Pro and Enterprise at $19, $55 and $89 per agent per month on annual billing. Growth lists ticketing, a shared inbox, a knowledge base and automations, and Pro adds a multilingual helpdesk and multiple SLA policies. The Freddy AI Agent’s first 500 sessions are listed as included with Growth, and Copilot features are listed at $29 per agent per month on annual billing. The page is not clear on whether Copilot is included in Pro and Enterprise or sold on top, so confirm that with Freshworks. Freshdesk’s help article says automation rules can call external systems through webhooks, limited to 1,000 calls an hour. The Freshdesk API v2 is a REST API with ticket endpoints for create, view, update and search.

Intercom

Intercom lists Essential at $29, Advanced at $85 and Expert at $132 per seat per month, all with shared inbox and ticketing, and a 14-day trial. Its Fin AI agent is priced from $0.99 per outcome, separately from seats. Phone, SMS and WhatsApp are usage-based. Intercom’s developer page says webhooks send real-time notifications for events such as ticket.created, set up in the Developer Hub.

Tidio

Tidio’s page lists Free with 50 billable conversations, Starter at $24.17 with 100, and Growth from $49.17. The Lyro AI agent is a separate add-on from $32.50 a month. Its home page names Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and email in one shared inbox and says it connects through OpenAPI, Zapier and 120+ integrations. The page did not mention webhooks. For chatbot-first buying, see AI chatbot platforms compared, which includes Tidio.

Jira Service Management

Atlassian’s documentation describes Jira Service Management Cloud as having automation flows for repetitive tasks and a REST API for creating requests, managing customers and organizations, and retrieving queues. Its prices could not be read from the pricing page for this comparison, so none are quoted. Third-party articles disagree with each other on the figures, which is a reason to use Atlassian’s own calculator.

Which is closer to which need

The documented facts support these pairings and no ranking:

  • A chat-led website. Tidio and Intercom list chat and AI agents as core parts of the product.
  • Email-led support with a classic queue. Zendesk and Freshdesk list ticketing and shared inboxes as the base of their plans.
  • An internal IT or operations desk. Jira Service Management is documented around customer requests, queues and SLAs, which suits internal requests as much as customer ones.
  • Predictable cost. Per-agent prices scale with headcount. AI priced per outcome or per conversation scales with volume, so estimate both.

Connecting a ticketing system to automation

All five publish a way for outside software to react to a ticket. A webhook can start a workflow in n8n or Zapier when a ticket is created, and an API call can write back a status or a note. Typical uses:

  • Post new high-priority tickets to a team chat.
  • Add a ticket to a spreadsheet or CRM row.
  • Ask an AI model to draft a reply, then have an agent approve it before it goes out.
  • Close the loop by writing the final status back to the ticket.

Zapier’s Free plan does not include webhooks, according to Zapier’s pricing page as summarised in the Zapier guide. Rate limits differ: Freshdesk caps webhook calls from automation rules, so test the volume before relying on it. The automation pillar guide explains where an AI step fits, and the small business workflow guide covers starting with one task.

Questions to ask before choosing

  1. Which channels must arrive in one queue, and are they listed by the vendor?
  2. What is the cost for the number of agents, and does it change with annual billing?
  3. Is AI priced per seat, per conversation or per outcome?
  4. Which events can send a webhook, and what are the call limits?
  5. Where is data stored, and what do the vendor’s terms say about customer personal data under the Philippine Data Privacy Act?
