AI for social media: what can be automated and what the platforms allow

Short answer

AI social media tools can draft captions, ideas and images, and scheduling tools can publish them for you. Meta Business Suite schedules Facebook and Instagram posts for free, and Instagram’s API publishes to professional accounts. Platform rules bar fake engagement and mass automated activity, and TikTok requires labels on realistic AI content. Keep a person approving every post before it goes out.

What AI can do for a social media routine

An AI social media routine has five parts. The software can help with each, with a different level of risk.

TaskWhat AI can doWhat a person still does
IdeasSuggest topics from your product list and customer questionsPick the ones that fit your business and season
DraftingWrite caption options, in English or Filipino, from a briefCheck facts, prices and tone, and remove claims you cannot back up
VisualsGenerate images or short video, or adapt a templateCheck for errors, rights and whether it needs an AI label
SchedulingPublish at set times through an official toolApprove the queue before it runs
RepliesDraft answers, or answer common questions through a botHandle complaints, refunds and anything sensitive

A chat assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude can draft captions. See ChatGPT for Philippine business for what to keep out of a prompt. AI models can state false things confidently, which is called hallucination, so check every claim.

How scheduling works through official tools

Meta Business Suite. Meta’s page describes it as a place to manage Facebook, Messenger and Instagram marketing. It says you can “publish feed posts and stories for both Facebook and Instagram” and schedule them for a later time. It is listed under Meta’s free tools.

Instagram’s publishing API. Developers and third-party tools publish to Instagram through the Instagram content publishing API. The documentation says it works for Instagram professional accounts. It supports single images (JPEG only), videos and Reels, Stories and carousels of up to 10 items. The documentation gives two daily limits that disagree: “100 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period” in one section and “50 published posts within a 24-hour period” in another. A tool can check the live limit with a documented request. Media must be on a publicly reachable server when publishing.

A scheduler such as Buffer connects accounts and uses these official routes. Buffer’s pricing page lists a Free plan to connect up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, 100 ideas and an AI Assistant. The paid Essentials plan is $5 a month for one channel (about PHP 314), “$60 billed yearly” per Buffer’s page. The price is in dollars and per channel.

For “automate Instagram posts”, that is the sequence: prepare posts in a sheet or a drafting tool, load them into an official scheduler and let it publish. A workflow tool such as n8n or Zapier can move rows from a content calendar sheet into a scheduler, if the scheduler offers a connection. See the workflow guide.

What the platforms allow and bar

Meta (Facebook and Instagram)

Meta’s Spam policy bars content designed to deceive, mislead or overwhelm people so that it artificially raises viewership. Its rules include:

  • Creating or acting on content and accounts at extremely high volume and very high frequencies, whether by hand or by automation.
  • Trading engagement for value, such as exchanging something for likes, shares, views, follows or clicks.
  • Offering giveaways or monetary items in return for engagement, and like-gating or share-gating content.
  • Buying or selling accounts, groups or pages.

Meta says accounts acting at lower volumes can still be restricted if other spam signals appear, such as repetitive posting. In plain terms, scheduling your own posts is an ordinary use of an official tool. Software that likes, follows or messages at volume to gain attention falls in the area the policy describes, and so does buying engagement. This guide is not legal advice, and Meta decides how it applies its policy. For automated replies to people who message you, see ManyChat and Messenger bots for Philippine businesses.

TikTok

TikTok’s help page defines AI-generated content as images, video or audio “generated or modified by artificial intelligence”. Its rules say:

  • TikTok encourages labels on content that is completely generated or significantly edited by AI.
  • Creators must “label all AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio, and video”.
  • TikTok may apply an automatic “AI-generated” label, for example when content carries C2PA Content Credentials, and an auto label cannot be removed.
  • Some content is prohibited even with a label, such as fake authoritative sources or crisis events, and the likeness of people under 18 or of private adults used without permission.
  • Misleadingly labeling unaltered content as AI-generated is a violation of its terms.

Add a label whenever a post uses a realistic AI-made face, voice or scene. Do not use a real person’s likeness without permission, such as a staff member, a customer or a celebrity.

An approval routine before anything is posted

This routine is an illustration, not a platform requirement. Adapt it to your team.

  1. Brief

Write down the product, the audience, the offer, the facts that must appear and the claims that must not.

  2. Draft

Ask the AI for two or three options. Do not paste customer names, numbers or chat logs into a prompt.

  3. Check

A named person checks prices, dates, spelling, rights to any photo and any AI label that the platform requires.

  4. Approve

The same person marks the post approved in the content calendar. Nothing is scheduled without approval.

  5. Schedule

Load approved posts into the official scheduler. Keep the original brief with the post.

  6. Review

Read replies and comments yourself. Escalate complaints and refund requests to a person.

Human in the loop is the term for that approval step. It is also the safest way to stay inside platform rules, because it keeps you from posting something nobody read.

Philippine points to check

Personal data. Customer names, messages and photos are personal data. The Data Privacy Act of 2012 applies to the business. Do not feed them to an AI tool without checking what the tool does with them. See the pillar guide.

Claims and endorsements. Platforms prohibit fake endorsements and misleading AI content. Keep claims you can prove, and label testimonials as real only when they are.

Search and AI visibility. Social posts feed search, but search optimization is its own topic. See AI SEO explained, and marketing automation in the Philippines for email and follow-up.
